Welcome to HABL

Welcome to the Hertford Area Badminton League (HABL) web site.

In an attempt to round up some more clubs for the Hertford Area Badminton League we have produced a poster. If you know somewhere you could post it feel free!

HABL Scoring System for 2007-2008

The 2007 HABL AGM voted to adopt the Rally Point System for the 2007-8 season. The full laws of badminton and a useful guide to the Rally Point System can be found on the Downloads page.

New Service Rules

In all the furore about the rally point scoring system I wonder how many of us missed the changes in the service rules! Below are the relevant changes:-

9.1.1 neither side shall cause undue delay to the delivery of the service once the server and the receiver are ready for the service. On completion of the backward movement of server’s racket head, any delay in the start of the service (Law 9.2), shall be considered to be an undue delay;

9.1.5 the whole shuttle shall be below the server’s waist at the instant of being hit by the server’s racket. The waist shall be considered to be an imaginary line round the body, level with the lowest part of the server’s bottom rib;

9.1.6 the shaft of the server’s racket at the instant of hitting the shuttle shall be pointing in a downward direction;

In summary, 9.1.1 now disallows the (up to 3 second) pause I used to like; 9.1.5 finally disambiguates where the waist is; 9.1.6 no longer requires the racket head to be below the lowest part of the hand.

HABL Rules

Clubs are asked to note that all HABL Rules must be observed and a few that cause particular problems are:-

  1. All players taking part in a league match must be bonafide members of the club they are representing. Specifically, this means they are registered with Badminton England as members of the club they are representing on the day of each match in which they play.
  2. No player may play for more than one club in anyone category, (Mens/Ladies 6, Mens/Ladies 4, Mixed) in any one season.
  3. All teams must be nominated, except the lowest team in each category from each club. No nominated player may play in a lower team in the same category at any time during the season. Nominations must be received before the first match is played. In the absence of such a list the first match result card received shall represent the nomination. If a special situation of bad nomination arises, the problem may be submitted to the committee, who may allow a reorganisation in that club's nomination.
